Colonel Stephen W. Brooks is a native of Georgia and a veteran of over 24 years of military service. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from the University of Georgia in 1975. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Sergeant before completing Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, Chemical Corps, in June 1977. He later went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1984. A graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the Army Command and General Staff College, Colonel Brooks completed the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, in 1977; and the Chemical Officer Advanced Course, Fort McClellan, Alabama, in 1981. Colonel Brooks has served in a variety of command and staff assignments over the course of his military career. He has commanded at platoon, detachment, company and battalion levels to include the 164th Chemical Company, Fort Lewis, Washington; the 545th Ordnance Company (Special Weapons), Federal Republic of Germany; and Seneca Army Depot, Romulus, New York. He has served in staff positions at battalion, brigade, group, division, corps, and Army levels. He has served in the 4th Infantry Division, 24th Infantry Division, 9th Infantry Division, the 3d Armored Division, and the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army (Program Analysis and Evaluation Directorate). His last assignment was Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Colonel Brooks' awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Staff Identification Badge. Colonel Brooks has been married for 19 years to the former Jeanne Marie Boyle, a native of St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. She is a lieutenant colonel, Adjutant General Corps, and is currently assigned to the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army (Program Analysis and Evaluation Directorate). |
