MSG John M. Burns

USACAP Sergeant Major

 

MSG Burns entered the U.S. Army on 16 March 1979 as a member of the Army Reserves. After completing Basic training at Fort Dix, NJ, he completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, VA as as an Aircraft Structural Repair Maintenance Worker. In May 1984, MSG Burns returned to active duty and completed the NBC Specialist Course.

MSG Burns completed one tour of duty in both Germany and Alaska. He has served at Fort Hood, TX, Fort McClellan, AL, and Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Master Sergeant Burns has served as a Decon Sprayer Loader with the 181st and 95th CML CO; Squad Leader with the 95th CML CO; Drill Sergeant with Delta CO, 82nd CML Bn; Drill Sergeant Instructor with (BTCG); DISCOM Staff NBC NCOIC/PSG (6th ID Light); Platoon Sergeant and Operations Sergeant with the 11th CML CO; Detachment First Sergeant with the 20th CML DET (BIDS); and First Sergeant of Bravo Company, 82nd CML Bn, Fort McClellan, AL and Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

His Military schools include the Primary Leadership Development Course, Chemical Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Courses, Drill Sergeant Course, Drill Sergeant School Instructor Course, Air Assault Course, Airborne Course, Rappel Master Course, Master Fitness Course, and First Sergeant Course. Master Sergeant Burns has completed 3 years of college with an associates degree in Liberal Arts.

MSG Burns' awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (5th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 3), Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 2), Army Reserves Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Drill Sergeant Badge, German Marksmanship Award, Air Assault Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.

Master Sergeant Burns is married to Geri who will reside at 4 Collier St, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, 65473. They have two children, Michael (21) who is attending college at Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama and Kara (16) who is attending High School at Waynesville, Missouri.
